About the title bar and changes in general

2007 December 3
by Bruce

Okay. The post-election metamorphosis of this blog has begun. You have probably noticed the change of theme and the new title bar. I’d like to say a little about the title bar before I go on.

River Torrens, North Adelaide, 2007

This photo was edited using GIMP, and taken during one of my linear park walks back in October. I’ve got other photos of the park, but I’ll save them for a while before posting them so that my cousin Nick in the UK can check them out. But back to the photo in question.

The photo is taken along the River Torrens just west of the bridge along Frome Road. Just to the left of the field of vision is the Adelaide Zoo. Behind and to the west is the University of Adelaide’s cricket grounds. Immediately behind me is a park bench where a spent a good number of hours reading The God Delusion (for the third time). Ahead to the south, beyond the parklands is the City East campus of UniSA and the main campus of the University of Adelaide. It’s also been one of my favourite parts of Adelaide since moving here in ‘92.

A nice relaxed spot that’s good for thinking in. Hence, I hope it lends a conducive ambiance to my blog.

Now, onto some of the changes. There are a few topics I want to tackle in the next couple of months.

I want to finish my Atheism and Theory of Justification series of blogs. I’ve got a blog in the works about the repeated meme of shifting the burden of proof with regards to unfalsifiable ideas. I want to finish my review of The God Delusion, and tackle a few bad reviews of the book. I intend to again tackle a few examples of flawed reasoning by Keith Windschuttle.

Finally, I intend to write a response to a couple of posts in a series called “A Short Critique of Science” over at Subversive Muse here and here.

I’m looking forward to it.

~ Bruce

It looks very nice. I love GIMP; what did I ever do without it…Well, before ditching Windows?

I know what you mean about multiple projects.

: { I really need to get working on my secularist blog.

Howard’s departure has, it appears, made you feel younger, and has led to us both doing extensive blog renovations. I am sure all this is a Sign! :)

    Looks great, Bruce.

Kudos on the makeover, Bruce. I have both GIMP and Paint.Net, but I’ll be buggered if I can figure out how to use them.

    Which one is Pink? permalink

Looking good Bruce. The river is calming yet inspiring.

Which one is Pink? (formally Jimmy Scullin)

I understand about half of this blogge, but it’s still a cracking good read.

Kudos to dragging out early memories, I see the effects have rippled around the blogoverse with haste!

Did you start the early memory meme, Bruce? I was going to tag you.

Like the new look – nice and serene.

Still can’t quite believe that government has changed hands: it will be interesting to see what changes occur.

Like the new look, many memories of that area. (where’s the popeye?)
Do you like the Red Ochre restaurant further down the river?

    Jen,

I may check the list out. Am just organising the caching and filtering of my email over a dual-boot machine.

    Larro,

Multiple projects? I’m still trying to find time to restart my transition to Linux after my PC got rather ill (and messed up some partition data).

    AV,

Cheers for the Kudos. Maybe I should write a GIMP turorial or 2.

    WOIP,

Calming, inspiring and very polluted. Or somewhat polluted. The section of the river in the photo appeared clearer than usual, and I managed to see some fish (which is odd this far up stream).

Usually this part is polluted with a lot of particulate matter and resultant algal blooms. The only blooms I’ve seen lately have been grasses.

    Boo,

Cheers for the additional kudos. I’m still looking around at people’s responses and some of them are pretty interesting.

    LE,

I did start the early memory meme. Am still getting over the change of Government myself. Can’t quite bring myself to celebrate a honeymoon period, but can celebrate the passing of the Howard regime.

    Ozatheist,

I haven’t seen the Popeye for a while along this stretch.

As for Red Ochre, I haven’t tried it out. Do you have any suggestions about what to try from the menu? I may give it a go.

    Ninglun,

A sign of what though? Both reading Popper, both having similar political scores, now both renovating blogs! Some room for interpretation there I reckon.

Finally, I intend to write a response to a couple of posts in a series called “A Short Critique of Science” over at Subversive Muse here and here.

A third entry has been added to that series, Bruce.

Good, good. More for me to do. ;-)

    Looks good man.

The photo is superb. I particularly like the ripples in the water. Excellent angle Bruce.

Sorry, can’t make any recommendations of something from the menu at Red Ochre, only had the one dinner there. Celebrating Mum’s 80th earlier this year. Do recall that decor, service and menu were good though.
Different from when they used to be on Gouger St(?).
There’s also another restaurant in the same complex, can’t remember the name though.
